RC is notorious for having some of the slowest experience gains in the game however there can be a decent demand for runes and a generous profit to be made for those who choose to train it. ===== Crafting Runes ===== In the Runecraft skill, the player can create runes to be used with the Magic Skill by binding the magical energy from the various rune altars into essence to create their respective runes. Essence comes in two varieties, Normal and Pure Essence. However, they only earn experience based on the amount of essence they use. The number of runes made from the essence in a player's inventory in an action that gains a level is determined by the player's level before the runecrafting action. Unlike in OSRS, the levels at which multiple runes are created is only for a guarantee, however, you will produce closer to the next available tier (if any) before you reach the level of guarantee, however it is RNG based on how many exactly you will craft. To craft combination runes, a player needs to take existing runes that are one half of the combination, with a matching talisman (not a tiara), along with an equal amount of pure essence to the altar which comprises the other half of the combination. Use the existing runes or the talisman for the existing runes on the altar. This has a 50% chance of success per rune, and any failed runes are simply destroyed. The talisman will be consumed regardless of how many runes are made. Players can wear a binding necklace to have a 100% chance of success instead. Accessing this area of the Abyss requires completion of the miniquest Enter the Abyss. ---------- {{ quest_guides:enter_the_abyss:abyss_tips_07.png }} ---------- The Abyss consists of two rings: a dangerous outer ring in a multicombat area and a safe inner ring with rifts leading to the runic altars. This will get you to level 9 RC at minimum * In the early levels, your best bet is to make earth runes and fire runes as they are the fastest altars to get to (digsite pendant and ring of dueling respectivly) * For extreme power leveling you may utilize the Water or Earth RC gloves at levels 20 and 30 respectivly. These will give you the fastest exp in the game at a cost of 75k for every 1000 essence crafted. * With essence hovering between 150-180 gp each, a decision has to be made between money and XP, typically you can emphasize on one while sacrificing the other. ==== Training for Money ==== If you are interested in training the skill but also want to make a good profit, here are a few tips: === Runes to Avoid Crafting === * With Pure Essence hovering 150-180 GP, runes have to sell for at least this price unless you make substantial multiple runes. See [[skill_guides/runecrafting#multiple_runes| Multiple Runes]]. Note: The level required to make 2x,3x etc of a rune is only for guarantee, in 2009scape you will produce a proportion of that multiple based on RNG until you reach that level for guarantee. * As such, certain runes should not be made for profit under any circumstances. These include * Cosmics - Too many come into the game from shooting stars vs being used by players * Chaos - barely break even when considering the price of a Chaos is between 100-140 ea. * Elemental Runes * Mind Runes * Body Runes === Runes to Craft === Essentially all runes Nature rune and above will net you a profit vs the cost of Pure Essence. Things to note are * Natures: Can produce multiple runes per essence with 91 guaranteeing 2x - Typically these will make you the most profit as a result * Laws: Are significantly more difficult to produce due to no armor or weapons allowed. Recommended 120+ combat to minimize damage in abyss. * Deaths: Are more in demand than Bloods and typically sell for the same value value should be considered as 2x natures as you can only produce 1 vs 2 with natures. * Bloods: Are not as in demand in large quantities and sell for the same as Deaths, but offer slightly higher XP. ==== Training for Experience ==== If you do not care about money and want to focus on soley experience, there are a few options that I would recommend. * [[minigames:Ourania_Altar |Ourania Altar/ZMI]] - Cancer inducing, however 2X experience for each rune crafted. Second fastest XP rate available in 2009Scape behind Earth runecrafting with FOG gloves. The reason for the Ebola AIDS cancer you will endure is because of the fact that you will craft multiple types of runes that require you to deposit your whole inventory (bank spacers do not exist in 2009scape) and using the banker at ZMI requires a rune payment (more clicking, wasted bank space, another thing you can forget and waste time). * Using [[minigames:fist_of_guthix |Fist of Guthix]] runecrafting gloves to craft earth and water runes. These gloves will cost you 75k per 1000 essence crafted. However, as FOG is not implemented and you are able to purchase tokens for GP in the meantime, it means that you can obtain some obsurd XP rates at the cost of profit by using these gloves that would normally require you to spend time playing the minigame. For starters, you can produce over 2k essence an hour so you are looking at minimum, 150k-200k cost per hour just to do this method. This is not as cancer inducing as ZMI. * Crafting [[skill_guides/runecrafting#combination_runes| Combination Runes]] with Magic Imbue. So you like self torture and runes that you cannot hope to sell for anything close to the effort it takes to make these? Do these for a couple hours and you might experience Shadow94 level burnout like you have never experienced in your life. ==== Comparisons ==== Rule of Thumb is expect about 2,500 Essence crafted through the abyss using all 4 pouches and an abyssal lurker. Graahk is faster than Abyss, FOG gloves offer some of the best exp per hour although with a reduction in profit.
